#2

Wrestlemania 28 is over and now the question is, "Where do we go from here?"...Let me say this.  There was a man, one man that said he does what his shirt says.  He rises above, and he wins. He said there's people that hate it, but he's going to Wrestlemania and win.  But he didn't.  Prior to that, he even said the fans knew that he has to win.  Naturally his opponent disagreed because he knows better.  He's no dummy.  He's The Rock.  You think he's in great shape, good health, and has is priorities straight for nothing?  Come on man?  He's doing what more of us should.  He's living out his dreams and still keeping his Eyes on the Prize.  Yeah, that's not just a saying.  It's a state of mind.

You can watch TV for the surface value of the matches and drama.  You can read wrestling info online for speculation, news, and rumors.  But what really matters though is that you have a reason for watching.  I've been watching this stuff for a long time.  It's not because I don't have a concept of reality.  It's not because I don't want to grow up.  It's because like a great movie, great sport, great relationship, and great lesson.  I grow from it.  I get something out of it.  Most of all, I've gotten motivation.  For Cena, he has been this for several young fans.  But there's a huge place where his character falls short, which leaves him room to grow.

So here it is...As I've read online, and most recently I've seen it put better than I ever could; Cena has been presented as too invincible.  Stone Cold epitomized and defined the idea of being oppressed by those in power.  But he had to battle against this every night and he was never unbeatable.  The Rock motivated and encouraged those who wanted to be best they could be in life.  But he keep losing so that he could stand back up and win.  Characters like that inspire you to not only live vicariously through them, but take parts of their personality and make it your own.  It worked because that is who they were - who they are.  Cena, who is, I believe, a good guy would not work as a heel.  As he said at WWE press conference for WM, he would fight that idea because you can't be a bad guy if you don't have it in you.  So he is definitely in the right role as a good guy.  Where he falls short though, he has been the good guy and beaten everyone put in front of him - Easily for the most part.  It has been a long time since he's ever been considered the underdog.  His character needed to lose to be humbled - Thank You Rock.

As I read recently, which I'd never take credit for, but someone else said it perfectly.  The fans want to root for the underdog.  That's no secret.  But the perspective of who that is gets lost in the translation a lot of times. Cena was worst than the Yankees, the Lakers, or Bill Russell in the 60's.  His character has become over the past 5 to 6 years as someone that the fans can't relate to.  Maybe longer than that.  He is no where near the  "minority."  And let's face it, if you watch wrestling, then you are in the minority in life.  It's something that's understood by a select group of people.  If you watch wrestling you get hated on by even people close to you, let alone the rest of the world.  For this reason, the quintessential top baby face has to see constant adversity in order to see appropriate success.  Yes, we do want to Rise Above John.  With you though, not while being left in the dust.  It's actually more the writers fault than his, but I'm not sure if he sees that or not yet.

This has been one of the greatest weekends for wrestling.  It will be a long road, but with Cena losing the way he did, they may be able to salvage his character.  The Rock explained further he is not going away, and has a plan moving foward - a championship.  Despite the rumors, Mark Henry and Chris Jericho are still there for the moment despite questioning quitting because basically it's time.  And Brock Lesnar is back.

All and all, the WWE has a lot of talent that can make things interesting right now and there are some vets for the young guys to learn from.  We've been waiting for wrestling to get better for a long time now.  I think this is it.  Will it be as good as the Attitude Era or the 80's?  No.  That would be crazy to go that far.  Nothing will be as good as it once was.  But it can be as GREAT as it WILL be.  So with that in mind, will it be worth watching again?  Yes.  Stick with me on this, and you'll be happy you did.  I don't waste my time or my breath (even in text).  "Business is about to pick up!"

If you don't know a relative JR line when you hear it, YouTube it because that's sad!

Peace & 'Taker Hair-grease
