Good morning. Good afternoon. Good way past noon. Happy latter part of the afternoon. Or even good evening. No matter what time of day, after reading this, you just might find yourself believing...
...in Dolph Zigler. I know, that one was not expected,
but when you watch sports entertainment and pro wrestling for a number
of years, you learn to look for things. Hopefully, you try to
notice more than what's forcefully thrown at your intentionally by
Vince, Stephanie, and whomever has drawn of the outline of the particular
show that evening. Don't get me wrong. I believe you should see if
the show has value and you can enjoy it for the way it was designed, but
after watching so many episodes, for so many years, and seeing so much
talent develop right in front of your face, you can't help but notice
when something special is happening.
Zigler has momentum. Sheamus does too. Let me
just put that out there, but the key to this week's article is that
Zigler's momentum is that underlining one that can really
catapult someone to superstar stardom in the wrestling. I'm not sure if
it's something that he can use on the big screen or anything like that,
but for wrestling - he's got something going. The first glimpse of
Zigler having more than meets the eye when it comes to charisma combined
with talent didn't start with his relationship with Brianna "Brie"
Bella. I don't even think it developed from working with Vicki
Guerrero. He's worked hard and almost modeled himself after a legend,
Mr. Perfect. Dolph seems to have a elements of Curt Henning the
wrestler and Mr. Perfect (same person for those not verse in their
wrestling knowledge) the character evident in many of his actions.
The nice part is that Zigler doesn't copy Mr. Perfect's
moves or persona. He's more than a modern day version of him. Zigler
is his own person. The fans love it. They cheer for him faintly but
CONSISTENTLY in the background each week. That faint chant actually
shouldn't even be called faint anymore. It's very evident regardless of
who he's fighting. He reminds them of wrestlers of the past, and he
symbolizes that much needed transition from them to the future.
Now one thing he's got to work on...the dirty blonde
look. I'm not going to judge another man's look, but I can say
this...if he turns face (like the WWE is pushing for) then he may switch
his appearance slightly to look more trust worthy. That could come at
the same time they try to turn Randy Orton heel again. In my opinion,
that may fail. It didn't work for Austin. The crowd loved him too
much. This by no means is a comparison between these four but there's
just some people that the crowd will cheer for no matter what: Austin,
Rock, Daniel Bryan, and Orton. Who knows, maybe they'll be forced
eventually to make Zigler a face because he belongs on that list of
undeniably loved wrestlers too.
Watching how Zigler's
current feud with Sheamus unfolds will tell a lot about the future of
this young man for 2012. Let's go Zigler! You don't realize how bad
wrestling needs knew household names, and you could end up being one of
them!
Peace, Hairgrease.
